Bill Clinton's Facelift - Houston Texas Plastic Surgery 2016

We have truly arrived at a time when the idea that plastic surgery is just for women is as outdated as the idea that a woman can’t be president -- If you’ve watched former President Bill Clinton at the recent Democratic National Convention, you may have thought, “He looks good for 70!”

But, look more closely. Is it all natural?

As a plastic surgeon, the biggest story of the night (to me) was not his ground-breaking "I met a girl" speech itself, nor the prospect of a First Gentleman. What was most remarkable was Bill Clinton’s new face, and the shift it represents in the field of cosmetic surgery, and American culture itself: as we now fully embrace as commonplace the idea of both men and women electing to have cosmetic surgery to improve their appearance. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Pooja Lodhia of ABC channel 13 in July who asked what procedures Clinton may or may not have had performed recently.

He’s had laser resurfacing. He’s had ample amounts of BOTOX. He’s had fillers and likely more-- although I have not treated the former president, I certainly recognize plastic surgery when I see it.

Many of you may have noted former President Bill Clinton’s physical decline in recent years due to health reasons and his subsequent weight loss, along with rhinophyma (which cannot be resolved without surgical treatment). So the “before” and “after” we saw in July were quite dramatic. His procedures most likely included a lower face & neck lift, fat or filler injections to cheek and neck, facial resurfacing laser treatments such as Limelight and IPL photofacial, conservative use of Botox to soften facial lines and wrinkles, forehead/brow lift, and upper and lower eyelid lift.

When I began practicing decades ago, men made up about five percent of my clientele. Now, it’s closer to 20 percent.  Years ago, we would more typically see a male patient for treatment following an injury. More and more, men are now visiting our office to treat specific problem areas (such as the neck, cheek and jowl areas) in order to improve their appearance. Minimally invasive procedures for men such as Botox, and filler injections like Juvederm–along with traditional facelifts–are on the rise. According to recent statistics from American Society of Plastic Surgeons (the largest group of board certified plastic surgeons in the world) there were 15.9 million cosmetic surgery procedures performed on men in the United States in 2015; a significant increase over 2014.

Case study: Mitchell Katine, a prominent Houston attorney who has successfully argued for human rights before the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Katine came to our office looking for a more youthful appearance, while still desiring to maintain a "natural look."  Mr. Katine, in his mid-50s, ended up deciding on facial and eyelid rejuvenation procedures. After only a short break from work (two weeks), Mr. Katine was able to return to his full responsibilities as a practicing attorney.

Just as women always have, men also seek to regain a more youthful look, improve their self-image, and feel better about their appearance. Pregnant Bachelor Nation star Erica Rose isn’t due until September 24 — but her unborn daughter, Holland, is already very loved. The mom-to-be was celebrated by friends and family with a baby shower at Books & Cookies in Santa Monica on Sunday, August 7.

Guests at the party — including Bachelor alums Renee Simlak,Sarah Herron andSamantha Levey — were treated to mini cupcakes from Sweet E’s Bake Shop, goody bags filled with swag from Belly Bandit and Babyganics, and manicures courtesy of Nail Garden. Another special touch: Rose’s mother, renowned artist Cindi Harwood Rose, gifted each attendee a personalized hand-cut silhouette with a choice of a pink or white picture frame.

“Sometimes baby showers are hours of opening gifts and then silly weird games, and I didn’t want mine to be like that!” Rose, 33, told Us Weekly at the bash that was decorated byMinted. “I just wanted it to be fun and relaxing.”

With the baby set to arrive in just six weeks, Rose admits she’s starting to get a little nervous. “I’m nervous about pushing because I’ve heard gross things about it!” the Lilac-clad reality star told Us. “Like sometimes people poop during labor, and I don’t want to do that!”

Us Weekly broke the news in February that Rose and her fiancé, Galen Gentry, were expecting their first child together. The L.A.-based pair started dating in November 2015 after meeting through work. She is the director of business development for Gentry Law Group, where he is an attorney.

“Galen is so excited. He wants to work from home so he can help me out. He actually has a 13-year-old son from a previous relationship, so he knows exactly what to do!” Rose revealed at the shower. “He’s the one who’s like, ‘I don’t think you need a night nurse. That’s crazy!’ I’m really happy that he knows what to do because I don’t even know how to change a diaper at this point.”

As for wedding plans, Rose says they’re learning toward May 2017. “I want to have time to get back into shape and not be pregnant!” she told Us. “We were trying to plan it for this May, and I sent out save-the-dates. Then I went dress shopping and cried because nothing was fitting me! Mainly because my boobs were out of control.”

She added: “It’s also nice to just focus on the baby for now.”

In a CultureMap exclusive, Erica revealed that the baby will be named Holland Rose Gentry. Holland is a combination of Erica’s late aunt’s name, Holly, and the homeland of her Dutch fiancé Galen Gentry. The couple is engaged, house shopping and planning on wedding after the birth of their first child. “It’s a Hollywood thing,” Erica’s mother, Cindi Rose, explains of the unusual order.
